Volunteer Firefighter &/or Search & Rescue Tax Credits
Were you a Volunteer Firefighter &/or Search & Rescue Volunteer? Did you complete at least 200 hours of eligible volunteer firefighting services or search & rescue volunteer services in the year?
October is Fire Prevention month, so we thought we’d let you know there’s a tax credit available for Volunteer Firefighter &/or Search & Rescue Volunteers.
You can claim $3000 for either the volunteer firefighters’ amount (VFA) or the search & rescue volunteers’ amount (SRVA) if you meet all the conditions:
You were a volunteer firefighter or a search & rescue volunteer during the year.
If you completed at least 200 hours of eligible volunteer firefighting services or search & rescue volunteer services in the year. An eligible search rescue organization must be a member of:
the Search & Rescue Volunteer Association of Canada, the Civil Air Search & Rescue Association, or the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary, or
its status as a search & rescue organization must be recognized by a provincial, municipal, or public authority, or
your search & rescue organization can tell you if it is eligible
Note: If you volunteered for both services you can combine your hours to meet the requirements & claim either the VFA or the SRVA.
