Government Wage Subsidies
Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS)
Have you seen a drop in revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic? You may be eligible for a subsidy to cover some of your employee wages. This will assist you as you start re-hiring & get your business back into normal operations.
The decline in revenue does not have to be related to COVID-19, as long as the decline is relative to before the pandemic. As of August 27, 2021, you can still apply for period 13 to 18. This is only available until period 20, which ends on September 25, 2021. Once this ends you are only able to apply for the Canada Recovery Hiring Program (CRHP) if you qualify.
Canada Recovery Hiring Program (CRHP)
The CRHP started accepting applications as of July 7, 2021. It starts from period 17 which is June 6 to July 3, 2021. To qualify, employers must still be experiencing qualifying revenue declines relative to before the pandemic. Here is a link that provides more detailed information on the subsidy & how to qualify for this subsidy. CRHP was designed to encourage employers to (re) hire & grow as the economy starts to recover. However, CRHP interacts with the CEWS. To apply for CRHP please follow all the steps listed here.
Eligible employers would claim the higher of the CEWS or CRHP until period 20 which ends on September 25, 2021. To calculate either subsidy or to see which one is better to apply for click here.
